Location: Mamawmatawa Holisctic Education Centre - Secondary

The primary role of the Life Skills Teacher is to deliver activities aimed at empowering our students to utilize life skills and awareness, enabling them to navigate challenges they may encounter in high school or beyond. These life skills are intentionally implemented to enhance our students' literacy and numeracy skills, personal responsibility, positive character traits, problem-solving abilities, and citizenship. 

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Undergraduate degree/diploma from an accredited university or college in a field related to education and/or social work.
  • Experience in project-based learning and curriculum development.
  • Willingness to think outside the box; very energetic ; a motivator; optimistic.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication along with computer skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
  • Ability to speak and understand the Ojibway-Cree language is a desirable asset.
  • Must go through pre-employment process by completing a drug and alcohol test as per CLEA Policy.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides life skills and enrichment instruction to an identified cohort of students.
  • Works collaboratively with Principal, students, staff and community partners to support mental health awareness.
  • Creates and maintains a Life Skills curriculum and lesson plans for students to include, students' literacy and numeracy skills, personal responsibility, positive character traits, basic meal preparations, personal life management, budgeting, work life, and problem-solving abilities, land based and cultural teaching. 
  • Recognizes students in need of additional mental health intervention and provides services to our school social services worker when required. 
  • Integrate Indigenous content and activities in the Life skills programming. 
  • Stimulates and encourages interest in education and character-development activities and encourages participation by all students.
  • Perform other duties requested.
